What is Active Digital Parenting?

Everyone has a life online. Our kids have lives online. But do you know what they're doing?

ADP is a workshop designed to give parents a jump start to being proactive with their digital parenting. It can be scary to try to tackle all this, but ADP covers a wide variety of topics from the most basic internet safety to specific apps and services. This workshop will focus on empowering and encouraging parents to take charge of their families’ exposure to social media, gaming, and the internet in general. We will focus on facts and dangers but also discuss active ways in every session to manage devices in a timely fashion and help you develop responsible digital citizens. I cover:

  • General Internet Safety - examples of why you should be paying attention as a parent

  • Social Networks (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.)

  • Device Parental Controls

  • Securing Your Devices and Your Home

  • YouTube, Netflix, and other parental controls

As of December 2021, I have presented my workshop at 63 different churches and organizations in the last 7 years. But in 63 workshops, I've done it 58 different ways. Here's a basic setup for a workshop:

  • Becoming a Better Digital Parent (Lecture, 45 min)

  • Social Media Awareness (Lecture/Discussion, 45 min)

  • Device Control in Your Home & Beyond (Interactive/Q&A, 90 min)

Most of the time, I can do the workshop in three hours or less, depending on how many questions are asked during the workshop - and questions are encouraged. Most of the time I can come on a Sunday afternoon (within driving distance from Columbia, TN) and do a Sunday afternoon/evening workshop. Because I'm a full-time minister, though, my Sunday mornings away are extremely limited. I'm currently booked through May 2022 for any Sunday morning engagements. Check out my speaking schedule here.

People always ask about cost. I do have a set fee for schools and organizations, but not churches. I do not want cost to be a barrier to helping parents protect their kids. No matter what your budget is, I'm sure we can work something out.

But that basic seminar is just for starters. I have a host of other material I can present - for teens, grandparents, sermons, and classes - not just the basic seminar setup. Get in touch with me below and we can work out a seminar structure that best works for your congregation or organization.

Below is a form you can fill out to ask questions - if I'm coming to an event at your church or organization, I'd love for you to ask me the question beforehand so I can get you an answer.  If you'd like to get in contact with me to come speak to your group, you can also fill out the form below.

If you have questions or are just lost in the sauce about digital parenting, contact me here and I'll see if I can help. If you'd like to present ADP to your congregation or leadership, please contact me and we can discuss a custom format for your people.

Let's work together to make our kids safe and responsible digital citizens.
